Best Reading Tracker Apps 2026: An Honest Comparison

Six reading trackers, side by side. We make one of them, so every fact about the others comes from at least two published reviews, listed at the end.

The Short Answer

There isn’t one best app. Goodreads has the most readers, StoryGraph the deepest stats, Hardcover an open API, Fable the busiest book clubs and Bookly a reading timer. Spinebloom is best if you want posts made from your real shelf and clubs that never spoil the book.

Which reading tracker has the most readers?

Goodreads, by far. Amazon has owned it since 2013, and every review roundup we read puts its community and its number of reviews first. If you want to see what strangers thought of almost any book, it’s still the place.

Which app has the best reading stats?

StoryGraph. Reviewers single out its charts and its mood and pace tags. Spinebloom has stats too (books, pages, hours and days read, this year against last), but StoryGraph has gone further for longer.

Spinebloom’s Reading Stats: books, pages, hours and days read this year, against last year.

Which app is best for book clubs?

For joining big, hosted clubs, Fable: clubs are the heart of it. For reading with friends, Spinebloom’s clubs lock each section’s discussion until you’ve read that far, so nobody spoils it.

Which app is best for timing your reading?

Bookly is built around a reading timer and the stats it makes. Spinebloom has a timer too, but Bookly does more with it.

Which app is best if you post about books?

Spinebloom. Stacks, shelves, wrap-ups, videos and a Year Recap are made from the books you actually logged, sized for Stories, posts and short videos.

A Year Recap made in Spinebloom from a reader’s real year of books.

Can you move your books from one app to another?

Yes. Goodreads’ export file is the common format: StoryGraph, Hardcover, Fable and Spinebloom all read it. Spinebloom also reads StoryGraph, Libby and Kindle files, syncs with Hardcover both ways once you link it, and exports your books in Goodreads’ format.

Spinebloom’s Import And Sync screen, with Goodreads, Hardcover, StoryGraph, Libby, Kindle and Open Library.

Where is Spinebloom behind?

  • It’s new, so its community is small next to Goodreads or StoryGraph.
  • It runs on the web today; the iPhone app isn’t out yet, and there’s no Android app.
  • Its stats aren’t as deep as StoryGraph’s.

How We Checked

What Spinebloom does comes from the app itself, with our own screenshots. Facts about the other apps come from at least two of the sources below, read on the date above. Some of those reviews are written by companies that make reading apps too, as we do. Prices change, so check each app before you pay.
